JACK Stevens has been involved in a cup final at Wembley but the Oxford City on-loan goalkeeper views tomorrow’s trip to Colchester United as the biggest of his career.

The 20-year-old missed out on Oxford United’s run to the Emirates FA Cup fifth round last season having played for City earlier in the competition.

But Stevens did spend the second half of the campaign as back-up to Simon Eastwood.

It included a place on the bench for April’s Checkatrade Trophy final, but this time he will get to play in the tie at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

He said: “There were some big games last year but I was on the bench, so definitely this will be the biggest I’ve started in.

“It’s an exciting game for everyone.

“I think we’ve done well to get to the first round – the club haven’t done it for a while.

“There’s no pressure, we’ll just go there, do our best and try to get something out of the game.

“We just want to express ourselves and show people we’re a good team and what we can do.”

There will be upsets across the first round and a City side sitting second bottom in a division two tiers below their hosts would register as a significant shock.

And Stevens knows to pull off a surprise, the odds are he will need to be on top form.

He said: “I will just prepare for what I can.

“Colchester are a league team, so they’re professionals.

“I might be busy but I’ve just got to be ready for it.

“Everyone loves an underdog and hopefully we can be one.”

He added: “It’s not been the best start.

“It’s a results business and we’re struggling to get them, so hopefully it will pick up.

“We’ve got a few big games coming up.

“Hopefully this weekend will give us a break from the league and we enjoy it so we can return to the league and get some results.”
