CITY of Oxford’s David Murphy came third behind world record holder Adam Peaty in the Manchester International.
In a fast and frantic 100m breaststroke final, Peaty won the race, but Murphy excelled in picking up one of Oxford’s nine medals in the event regarded as trials for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Star of the show for City was Connor Bryan, who claimed golds in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke.
There were silver medals for Dan Jenkins and Lewis Gilchrist in the 100m and 200m backstroke respectively, while Tash Fenton secured bronzes in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke.
City’s head coach Amanda Booth said: “With the recent appointment of Michael Peacock as our strength and conditioning coach, there are sure to be more medals and swimmers selected to represent their nation.”
Meanwhile, Abingdon Vale’s Lottie James claimed three podium places in her first high-level competition.
James got two seconds and a third in the 200m IM, 200m backstroke and 50m breaststroke.
