OXFORD City and County bowlers Jan Gore and Philip Warner linked up with Watford’s Joy and Brian Hamilton to win Warner Leisure Hotels Champion of Champions title in the finals held at Hayling Island.

Competing against winners from the hotel chain’s three indoor bowls locations, the champions picked up the £3,000 first prize.

Having eased their way into the semi-final the four faced a rink from Stratford, skipped by former England senior international Bill Ward.

Stratford led 9-4 with two ends to play, but the Oxford/Watford rinks picked up seven shots, thanks to brilliant leading by Gore and nerveless finishing by Warner to triumph 11-9.

In the final, they again showed their resilience to come from 4-1 down to beat twice previous champions Bristol 10-5.
