LES Robinson’s testimonial year kicks off today with more than 50 Oxford United fans taking part in a golf day.

Ex-Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher is the guest speaker at Magnolia Park and will host an auction.

Robinson, who made 458 appearances for the U’s between 1990 and 2000, said: “I’m overwhelmed by the incredible response from supporters, it means the world to me and I can’t thank everyone enough.

“We’re all looking forward to the golf day and I am sure it will be a brilliant event for everyone.”

The testimonial committee, made of up U’s fans Andrew Brockbank, Stuart Crook and former United managing director Greig Box Turnbull, are organising the fundraising events throughout the season.

Brockbank said: “Robbo is a club legend, who served United impeccably and he’s a great bloke, so it’s the least we can do, it’s a pleasure to help.”

Auction lots include a private flight over Oxfordshire, tickets to see Leicester City versus Manchester City, an Oxford United boardroom experience, rare signed football shirts, and unique golf memorabilia, including a Sergio Garcia cap.

The organisers are hoping to simultaneously offer attendees and social media followers the chance to bid during the golf day auction.
