Rob Hood has struggled for form all season, but saved his best until last with a vital 43 – making up for two earlier dropped catches – as Vale reached 128-5.

Chris Butcher, who also spilled an earlier opportunity in the field, chipped in with 31.

Oxford 3rd were denied victory by a resolute Didcot 2nd.

Miles Picknett top-scored with 98 in Oxford’s 237-5.

Didcot were never in the hunt, closing on 196-9, James Bywater scoring 62 and Alf Symonds taking 5-59.

Kingston Bagpuize’s season also ended with a draw in a high-scoring match at Kimble.

Batting first, Kingston declared on 278-4 as Marco Cecchini smashed 100 not out and James Boon struck 63.

George Woodley then took 6-66 for Kingston, but Kimble managed to cling on at 260-9, thanks largely to Alex Ross (90) and Jonathan Tizzard (52).

Rhian Krynauw’s 106 not out helped Leighton Buzzard Town 2nd to a 104-run win at home to Bledlow Ridge.

Buzzard racked up 279-6 dec, before dismissing Bledlow for 175 as Bertie Barrett took 3-28 and Andy Smith 3-31.

Division 6 champions Aston Rowant 3rd finished on a high with an 86-run win against Challow & Childrey 2nd.

Rowant racked up 270-7, Sam Lyon hitting 76 and Kevin Slatter 62.

Challow then fell to 184 all out in reply.

Minster Lovell 2nd sealed promotion from Division 7 thanks to a nine-wicket win at home to champions Horley 2nd.

Minster dismissed Horley for just 52, George Simms taking 5-16.

Minster took just 14.5 overs to reach 53-1.

Westbury 2nd were denied the second promotion spot by Witney Mills 2nd, who picked up enough points in a draw to avoid relegation.

Didcot 3rd secured the Division 8 crown with an 81-run win at home to Shipton-under-Wychwood 3rd.

After posting 188-6, Luiz Miguel-Stoman hitting 72, Didcot dismissed their rivals for 107.

Challow & Childrey 3rd beat visitors Kimble 2nd by five wickets to seal the Division 9 title.

Oxford Downs 3rd took the second promotion spot with a six-wicket win at Thame Town 3rd.

Kingston Bagpuize 2nd’s draw with visitors Dinton 3rd handed them the Division 10 crown.

Minster Lovell 3rd missed out on second, losing at Bletchley Town 2nd, who finished the season as runners-up.
