OXFORD RL ended their 12-match winless run with a hard-fought 18-12 victory at University of Gloucestershire All Golds.
Thirteen proved to be a lucky number for the Blues, but there was nothing fortunate about their triumph in the Kingstone Press League 1 Shield.
Jordan Gill opened the scoring for Oxford when racing over from 80 metres, Sam Druce converting.
They took a 6-0 lead into the break, but All Golds levelled early in the second half.
Phil Cowburn dived over after Harry Kidd powered through. Stead converted to make it 6-6.
Oxford retook the lead on 59 minutes, though, as Matt Davies scored. Kieron Hyde added the extras.
Casey Canterbury then forced his way over and Hyde converted again to make it 18-6.
Oxford lost possession on the first tackle after the kick-off and All Golds took full advantage with Harry Kidd ploughing over.
Stead converted to cut the lead to six points with 15 minutes to go.
All Golds pressed for another try, but Oxford’s defence held firm and they earned a long-awaited win.
