WHEATLEY Park School have become under 12 schools’ county champions for the first time in more than a decade.
Victory over Burford in the final secured a memorable success, with the highlight of their triumph coming courtesy of earlier victories over Abingdon and Magdalen College.
Against Burford, Charlie Turner proved the hero, claiming 5-7 including a hat-trick, as Wheatley restricted their rivals to 69-9.
They then raced to victory in eight overs, with Turner (27 off 23 balls) the only wicket to fall. George Crawford also hit 27 from 23 deliveries, Wheatley had edged past Magdalen College in the semi-final, having beaten Abingdon in the previous round.
They chased down their target of 109-3 thanks to an opening stand of 74 between Crawford and Turner.
Wheatley will now represent Oxfordshire Schools in the national under 13 competition next year.
