OXFORD Rugby League’s players came in for high praise following their historic transatlantic trip to play match against new Canadian club Toronto Wolfpack.
The hosts scored 12 tries in front of more than 6,000 as they won 62-12 to maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of Kingstone Press League 1.
However, the Blues’ chief executive Adrian Smith said: “I couldn’t be more proud of the lads and the staff after this inspiring display.
“To be honest it felt like a ‘David and Goliath’ scenario going into the match.
“The physical intent shown by the Wolfpack at the Salford game and now in Toronto could have been a psychological barrier our young lads had to cope with.
“But we did cope with it – and in my eyes it was outstanding, all things considered.
“It would be great if a few more turn up at Tilsley Park, Abingdon, this coming Sunday to welcome the boys home when we play Hunslet.”
“ I always say we are a well-kept secret but hopefully we have boosted our profile and what we are doing at Oxford.”
Oxford’s head coach Tim Rumford said: “We had some adversity about but that’s brought us closer together as a group and we will use that to push on with our season.
“The boys have been a credit to themselves and to Oxford.”
