JORDAN Flynn believes he is in the best form of his life as he prepares for a shot at national glory.

The 20-year-old, from Cowley, is through to the finals weekend of the Elite Championships at York Hall, Bethnal Green, on April 21-23.

Lightweight Flynn, who trains at Hoddesdon ABC, Hertfordshire, is hoping to follow in the footsteps of world renowned fighters in landing victory in amateur boxing’s showpiece event.

Anthony Joshua won the super heavyweight title in 2010 and 2011, before taking gold at the London 2012 Olympics.

Flynn is under no illusions winning later this month could be a springboard for a successful future.

He said: “I’ve won several national titles, but I’ve got a good chance of winning the seniors.

“Guys that win this, they usually go on to win an Olympic medal, it’s a big platform for turning professional.”

Flynn added: “I do feel like I’m at my best and the fittest I’ve ever been. I’m in a good place.”

Qualification for the quarter-finals was secured in the Home Counties Elite Championships in Banbury last weekend.

Flynn beat Lewis Frimpong, of High Wycombe, by unanimous decision.

He said: “My win was comfortable.

“I cruised through it quite easy, I didn’t really get out of first gear.

“It was a nice warm-up for me, no disrespect to my opponent as he is an elite boxer, but I felt I was levels above.”

It has been an impressive few months for Flynn, who beat Scottish No 1 Nathaniel Collins in December and Italian Champion Karol Kummer in February.

He has also been sparring with Rio Olympian Joe Cordina at Matchroom Elite Gym, Essex.

Flynn is feeling ready for whoever he faces later this month.

He said: “I 100 per cent fancy my chances. As long as I perform I’ve got the beating of everyone.

“I’ve not fought the guys before, but I’ve sparred them and, don’t worry, I’ve got the better of them.

“You can’t predict things, but I’m feeling good.”
