JACK Stevens says he is fully prepared to make his Oxford United debut at Wembley if Simon Eastwood is hit by a problem.
The 19-year-old has been named in the match day squads since January, after spending the first half of the season on loan at Oxford City.
Eastwood’s determination to play every minute of the campaign has meant United have not copied many clubs by using the Checkatrade Trophy games as an opportunity to rotate their goalkeepers.
A shoulder problem threatened to end the No 1’s ever-present status during the midweek victory against Bury, but Eastwood was able to continue.
However, an injury or red card on Sunday would thrust Stevens (pictured) into the limelight.
“Stranger things have happened, so I’ll be ready,” he said.
“I’m sure as soon as I step on the pitch it will feel just like a normal game.
“I’m confident in my ability. That’s what I’m there for.
“When I was at Barnet a few years ago I used to get the train past Wembley every day and I used to joke with my mate saying that’s the dream.
“It’s a big thing and just being involved is exciting.”
