FORMER Oxfordshire star Claire Taylor helped Banbury's cause as they defeated North Oxford A 6-3 in Division 1 of the 3-Pair Mixed League.
Left-hander Taylor, who as a 19-year-old took three games in succession off seven-times champion Martina Navratilova on Centre Court at Wimbledon in 1994, before losing 6-2, 6-3, joined up with Godwin Abah to chalk up four sets, although they were well beaten, 6-1, 6-1 by North's top pair, Jay Sexton and Julie Wood.
Banbury's match-winners were second pair Nade Salou and Jacqui Mills, who edged out Sexton and Wood 6-4, 7-6 on their way to claiming all six sets.
Woodstock reeled off a 6.5-2.5 win over Witney, despite Mark and Tiffany Adam heroically claiming all the points for the visitors, including a battling 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over opposing top pair Pramod Gujral and Liz Gilkes. Chris Corfield and Nicola Casey were unbeaten for Woodstock.
In Division 1 of the 2-Pair Mixed League, Jordan Chaney and Celia Butcher were in top form as they clinched both rubbers in Cholsey A's 2-2 draw at Abingdon A.
In Division 2, Jim Johnston and Liz Bamber were a formidable first pair for Colston as they crushed Southfield 3.5-0.5, dropping only four games all afternoon.
