OXFORD City’s senior men’s team produced a strong performance in a high-quality field at the second round of the Chiltern Cross Country League at Milton Keynes.

Maxwell Robinson was their first runner home in 39th place as Great Britain’s 5,000m Olympian Andy Vernon claimed victory.

City’s team finished second on the day in Division 1, behind the host club and Bedford, and occupy third in the overall standings.

Headington Road Runners produced a string of fine displays in Division 2.

Kenny Lowies, Dave Gavaghan and Roger Thetford ensured a one-two-three finish in the Vet 50 event, while Chris Dettmar won the Vet 40.

Neville Baker and Laurie Horman were second and third in the Vet 60 category.

In the women’s Vet 35 race, Rachel Shaw was runner-up.

Headington’s women won the team event, with their men second.

Bicester’s Ben West confirmed his promise with an excellent runners-up position in the under 17 race.

In an event won by a national schools track silver medallist, Jack Meijer, West was just four second behind in 19mins 53secs.

Eynsham Roadrunner Hannah Hale (23.19) was the first Oxfordshire lady home in 49th.
