STEVE Naylor took victory at the Wychwood Brewery Cotswold Classic Witney 10 mile race.

The Bedford & County runner, who lives in the town, won in an impressive time of 54mins 32secs, ahead of James Bolton, of Woodstock Harriers, who was the first vet 40 home.

More than 300 runners took part in the event, hosted by Witney Road Runners, which started and finished at the Kings School, in New Yatt Road.

Thame’s Katy Cherry was the first lady in 34th overall, while Eynsham’s Jacky Pinnock topped the vet 55 category.

Woodstock’s Bryan Vaughan won the vet men’s 60 age group, with Headington’s Roger Buswell landing the vet 70+ crown.

RADLEY stalwart Jill Slatter has received the England South East Regional Council Award for Services to Athletics.

The 80-year-old, one of the founding members of Radley AC in 1972, continues to act as a sprint and hurdles coach, despite undergoing spinal surgery in 2013.

She also sits on the committee, who nominated her for the award, and also acts as a track judge.

AT the British Masters Championships in Birmingham, Abingdon’s Mark Spivey and Noel Blatchford tasted victory in the vet 55 pole vault and vet ladies 65 5km walk respectively.

Bicester’s Dave Kuester had to settle for a single bronze medal in the weight throw after suffering a back injury in the men’s over 70 age group javelin.
