SIMON Kelner has been appointed by Oxford United as a non-executive member of the board of directors.

The former editor of the Independent, who lives in Oxfordshire, has been working with the club as a communications adviser for the past 18 months.

He will continue to perform the role as a director.

Kelner (right) said: “I am honoured to be joining the board at such an auspicious time for Oxford United.

“I am confident that more good times are around the corner.”

U’s chairman Darryl Eales said: “I am delighted to welcome Simon to the board.

“He has a great deal of business experience, added to an affinity with the area, and he will add to our already formidable line-up of directors.”
