Victory for Wantage Town at home to fellow strugglers Burnham this evening could be enough to secure their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West status, according to manager Stuart Cattell.

The Alfredians are one place and five points above the final relegation spot, currently occupied by tonight’s visitors, and Cattell feels that stretching it to eight points would leave Burnham with a difficult job to catch them.

“I think a win would go a long way to keeping us in the league,” he said.

“It’s do or die for both sides."

"Both are in need of a performance, because this is crucial for us, so it’s just a case of who can pull one out of the bag.

“I’m definitely expecting a battle and obviously they’re going to come at us, so we need to be ready for that.”

Manager Mike Ford has urged his table-topping Banbury United side not to ease off as they look to make it nine successive league wins at home to Bridgwater Town.

He said: “We’re top of the table now, but my question to the players is ‘do you want to stay top?’

“Because if we do, we need to keep doing exactly what we’ve been doing and not take our eye off the ball.”

Mark Bell remains Banbury’s only absentee due to suspension.
