WITNEY missed a late penalty as Henley Bulls held on to book their place in the Oxfordshire Cup final with a 22-20 victory at Hailey Road.

Fly half Henry Lamb was unable to land a 76th minute three-pointer as the visitors overturned a 13-12 deficit.

Henley No 8 Tommy Haynes scored an unconverted try on five minutes, before second row Scott Mortimer replied for the hosts.

Bulls then took a 12-8 lead into half-time, with centre Louis Flynn crossing and Luc Govier adding the extras.

Lamb’s penalty ensured Witney stayed in touch.

The wind was in the home side’s favour after the break and centre Jake Thomas went over for an unconverted try on 46 minutes.

But Henley then took control, with winger Daley Armen touching down, before Flynn crossed to make it 22-13.

Bulls lost Toby Howe to the sin-bin on 64 minutes and Witney took advantage with Mark Fuller crashing over.

Lamb converted to bring them within two points.

The hosts pushed for a try and after rucking their way towards the line the officials deemed the ball was held up.

But they were awarded a penalty and after opting to go for goal, Lamb was unable to kick what would have been the match-winning points.

Oxford Harlequins went through to the last four, beating Chinnor 2nd 39-15.

But the tie was overshadowed by a neck injury to Chinnor’s Elliott Bevan which forced the match to be moved to an adjacent pitch as he could not be moved.

Scans revealed the hooker suffered severe whiplash.

Quins started badly as Chinnor’s Ryan Collins scored in the corner to make it 5-0 in the first minute.

But the visitors steadied themselves and a Sam Watkinson penalty reduced the deficit on eight minute The hosts stretched their advantage with a George Blewitt try, converted by Jake Buckland, but Quins responded with Fotu Latu crossing.

Watkinson added the extras.

And they raced into an 18-12 lead at half-time when Pete Boulton drove over and Watkinson landed a penalty.

Bevan suffered his injury four minutes after the restart and after play was resumed Buckland slotted a penalty.

But Quins proceeded to take control.

Charlie Ward, Richard Battson and Nick Gardner all crossed the whitewash.

Watkinson converted all three tries as Quins booked a semi-final meeting with Banbury.
