KIDLINGTON’S Wembley dream is over after they went down 4-0 at home to Bowers & Pitsea in their FA Vase quarter-final replay.

The dismissal of Lewis Gabbidon early in the second half proved to be their downfall.

James Stevens had put them 1-0 up before the break, while goals from Luke Wilson, Jamie Salmon and Ross Adams against the ten men added further insult to injury.

The Greens started brightly and could have taken the lead inside three minutes when Anaclet Odhiambo raced through, but his attempted lob sailed over.

Kristian Thomas went closer still in the 19th minute, rattling the crossbar with a powerful header from a long punt forward.

But the visitors came back into it and took the lead against the run of play just five minutes later.

Chris Bryan squared to Stevens, who unleashed an unstoppable effort from the edge of the area which clipped the bar on its way in.

Henry Owen spurned a golden opportunity to level before the break when a free-kick was nodded into his path in front of goal, but his timid effort was straight at the keeper.

Substitute Ryan Brooks hit the woodwork in the opening moments of the second half, heading a corner against the bar.

But that was the closest Kidlington would come to levelling as momentum irreversibly shifted in the visitors’ favour.

After a clumsy challenge from behind on goalscorer Stevens, Gabbidon was shown red, leaving the Greens a man light for almost the entire second half.

And they were still reeling when they fell further behind just two minutes later as Wilson headed home from close range.

Any slim hopes of a comeback were dashed 20 minutes from time when Salmon grabbed the third, tapping in a rebound after Lewis Manor had headed against a post.

Ten minutes later, Adams made it four, seizing on a poor throw out from goalkeeper Sam Warrell before burying his shot in the bottom left-hand corner.

Kidlington were even denied a consolation as substitute Jimmy Deabill was foiled at close range by a brilliant last-ditch block from Billy Sendall in the closing moments of the game.

Martin Wilkinson's side now move their focus to winning promotion from the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division.
