Banbury United could go top of Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West if they beat league leaders Winchester City at Spencer Stadium tomorrow.

The Puritans climbed to second in the table with a 1-0 win at Tiverton Town on Tuesday, stretching their winning run to seven games.

The visitors are also on a six-match winning streak, meaning one of those runs must end, but Banbury boss Mike Ford insisted it will be business as usual for his side, despite the potential prize at stake.

“If you put it in context, it’s another three points,” he said.

“If we win it puts us three points closer to securing a play-off spot.

Ford said: “It’s top versus second and that gets people excited, but for us it’s just another game and another chance to get three points.”

When the two sides met last October, Winchester emerged comfortable 4-0 victors, but Ford believes that will have no bearing this weekend.

He added: “We are the league’s form team and we have nothing to fear from them.

“We respect them, because they’re top of the league, but we’ve beaten North Leigh and Tiverton in the last couple of weeks and both those sides are the equal of Winchester.”

Tuesday’s goalscorer Mark Bell starts a three-game suspension, but Miles Welch-Hayes returns to the side.

Didcot Town hope to bring in a goalkeeper to cover for the suspended Leigh Bedwell as they entertain third-placed Cinderford Town.

Bedwell is out for three games after being sent off in their 2-1 defeat to Winchester City a fortnight ago.

And with back-up keeper Josh Gannon’s only appearance this season coming in a morale-sapping 14-0 humbling by MK Dons in the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup, manager Andy Ballard is hoping to sign a replacement.

“It does upset the team a bit, because Leigh Bedwell has been absolutely fantastic for us and he’s a big player to lose,” he said.

“We’ve been excellent defensively lately and so we have to keep that up, but we will make sure we bring in a goalkeeper who is capable at this level and I’m confident we’ll come through it.”

Defender Harry Beer is unavailable.

Zak Westlake will miss North Leigh’s trip to Larkhall Athletic after being suspended for three games following his red card in the Millers’ recent 3-1 defeat to Banbury.

Sam Collier and Nick Thorne return for Wantage Town as they welcome Mangotsfield United.

Carl Evans remains unavailable for the Alfredians, while Amadeu Arnau has left and returned to Spain.
