Oxford City Stars were in devastating form as they hammered Bracknell Hornets 15-5 at Oxpens on Sunday.

It is the highest scoreline in English National League South Division 1 this season, beating Stars’ own record of 13 goals against Milton Keynes Thunder.

And it complete a double victory for Oxford over the Hornets last weekend in two vastly contrasting matches.

While Oxford struggled to a 5-3 victory at Bracknell on Saturday, there was no stopping them 24 hours later..

Stars had 48 shots on goal, nearly a third of them resulting in goals on what turned out to be a bad night for the Hornets.

The visitors contributed to their downfall with a total of 91 minutes of penalties, to just 12 for Stars.

The hosts raced into a 3-0 lead through Joe Edwards, Alan Green and Ben Ealey-Newman, before Bracknell replied through Ryan Handisides.

When Darren Elliott added Star’s fourth just before the end of the first period, it was all too much for Hornets’ Brandon Miles, whose outburst earned him a ten-minute game misconduct and a match penalty for throwing his stick at the referee.

The 4-1 tally was doubled in the second period, as Elliott, Michael Whillock’s brace and Josh Florey’s goal put Stars 8-2 ahead, Jake Pitchley replying for the visitors.

Stars then scored five goals in the first eight minutes of the third period.

Two of them came from Elliott taking his tally to four, while Green, Boris Ruzicka and Nick Oliver also found the net.

Stars’ tally was completed by Green’s third and Florey.

The influential Ondrej Pekarik may not have scored, but he figured with four assists, one more than Green and Ealey-Newman.

For Bracknell, Handisides completed his hat-trick, while Pitchley added his second.

It had been a much closer contest at Bracknell the previous day, as Stars secured the two points that guarantees them a place in the end-of-season play-offs.

The visitors were 2-0 ahead in no time thanks to Edwards and Green who netted after some precision passing from Shane Moore and Pekarik.

William Stead pulled back a goal for Hornets, before the game erupted into an all-out brawl, with Stars netminder Tom Annetts and Hornets Sam Waller being ejected.

This led to Stars’ young back-up netminder Aaron Burton making his senior debut.

Green and Pekarik extended Stars’ lead to 4-1 in the second period, before Burton was beaten by Josh Martin.

Green completed his hat-trick in the third period, the Hornets’ reply coming from Luke Reynolds.
