TONIGHT’S clash has nothing to do with Chris Wilder coming back to Oxford United, according to skipper Jake Wright.

It is the fifth time the Northampton Town boss has faced his former employers since leaving just over two years ago.

Wright was Wilder’s skipper, but with so much water passing under the bridge since his exit, the defender thinks any extra spice has now gone.

“Definitely,” he said.

“He will see it as another game and we will as well.

“There’s no-one really here at the club now who was to do with Chris Wilder, so it’s just a game for us.

“We need a point to hit our target from this block and that’s all it is for us.”

With the game pitching third-placed United against the Sky Bet League Two leaders, it hardly needs any added edge.

And U’s boss Michael Appleton echoed Wright’s thoughts.

He said: “I’m sure Chris gets bored of people talking about him coming back to Oxford. I know I do.

“They are flying high and we’re not doing bad in third.

We’re looking forward to the game as much as they are.”
