WITNEY’S Steve Naylor just missed out on a medal in the South of England Cross Country Championships held at the brutally muddy Parliament Hill Fields in London.
Naylor came fourth in the 15km race in a time of 50mins 21sec – his highest finish there in five races.
The Woodstock Harrier was just three seconds off third place, but helped his first-claim club Bedford & County to the bronze medal.
Abingdon’s Fiona Bunn produced another excellent run to finish ninth in the women’s under 17 race in a time of 21.12 over the five kilometre course.
Clubmate Beth Darwent finished 78th in the under 13 event.
l SUE Walters, of Abingdon, ran in the Scottish National Masters at Forres and finished 72nd in the senior women’s race.
l THE fourth round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League takes place at Cirencester on Sunday.
Races begin at 9.55am, with the under 20, senior and veteran women event at 11.20.
The men's race is at 12pm.
