WESTBURY completed a memorable league and Airey Cup double when they crushed Great Horwood by ten wickets in a one-sided final at Charlbury on Sunday.
Opponents Great Horwood batted first, but never got to grips with an excellent bowling attack, Sam Stoop taking a remarkable 4-1 in a six over spell, while Andy Clarke claimed 3-35.
Horwood were shot out for 103, Kevin Smith top-scoring with 29, Matt Thatcher hitting 26 and opener Sam Willett 24.
Westbury’s opening pair Paul Atkins and Tom Gurney were in a hurry to knock off the total, Atkins hitting 50 not out and Gurney 43 not out as they raced to 108-0 in just 20 overs.
It came 24 hours after they wrapped up the league campaign in style, winning by 173 runs against visitors Oxenford, who were relegated.
Crowned as champions in the previous game, Westbury’s batsmen cut loose to amass their record OCA total.
Tom Wilson hit 12 of their incredible 26 sixes in his 150, while Olly Tice (80) and Simon Boardman (64no) also shone in their total of 389-6.
Gurney then claimed 4-54 as Oxenford fell to 216 all out, despite an unbeaten 54 from Aaron Hirtenstein.
Minster Lovell’s fine season finished with a 160-run win at home to Chadlington to take second place.
Elliot Graham (76) helped Minster to 246 all out, Matthew Bailey taking 5-26.
Chris Morgan then claimed 4-13 in 12 tight overs as the hosts slumped to 86 all out.
Cowley Internationals secured their safety with a 127-run win at Shrivenham.
Hajji Sadiqi (61) and Bilal Khan (50) were key in Cowley’s 225 all out, before Zabi Saeed (3-5), Muhammad Adil (3-21) and Khuram Khalid (3-21) starred as the hosts were dismissed for 98.
Charlbury also survived, thanks to a thrilling eight-run win at Stonesfield.
After being bowled out for 160, Jake Godfrey claimed 3-35 to dismiss the hosts for 152 in reply.
In Division 2, Marsh Gibbon fell to a four-wicket defeat at home to Broughton & North Newington.
Stu Leonard struck a fine 95 in Marsh Gibbon’s 194-3, but Olly Evans (55), Don Paterson (42no) and Richard Harper (38) steered Broughton over the winning line at 200-6.
Cairns Fudge secured the second promotion spot in Division 3 with a 117-run victory at Westcott.
Tom Small (78) and Mark Chandler (59) shone for Fudge in their 255-8, before Matt Clark returned excellent figures of 6-40 to help dismiss the home side for 138 to secure second place.
It meant Wootton & Boars Hill’s 70-run win at home to Eynsham was in vain.
Damien Wiskin smashed a brilliant 112 and Shaun Morton 98 in Wootton’s excellent 289-6.
Omar Hussain then claimed 3-23 in Eynsham’s 219 all out, but the maximum point victory was not enough to overhaul Fudge for second spot.
In Division 4, Stuart Armstrong’s six wickets helped Marcham to a 52-run win over visitors Kilkenny.
Tristan Barratt’s 70 saw Marcham set 210-9, before Armstrong claimed 6-23 to dismiss Kilkenny for 158, Duncan Macdonald hitting 61 and Chris May 56.
Division 5 champions Sunningwell had to work hard for a three-wicket win at home to basement boys Steventon.
The visitors were indebted to Tom Cannon’s 74 in their 179 all out, Anthony Harris taking 4-40 for the hosts.
Sam Baker took his season’s tally to 868 runs with 70 to lead his side to 181-7.
Kennington saw off hosts Charlbury 2nd by 117 runs.
Graham Rowley (69) top-scored in the visitors’ 221-6, before Russell Vircavs claimed 3-8 and Duncan Robson 3-11 in Charlbury’s 104 all out.
Risinghurst leapfrogged hosts West Ilsley to finish third with a six-wicket win.
After dismissing Ilsley for 124, Martin Kalyan taking 4-7 and John Thompson 4-34, Risinghurst reached 127-4 as Gaurav Samuel hit 53 not out.
Division 6 champions Westbury 2nd fell to a 51-run defeat at Brill.
Jeremy Mansfield made 67 in the hosts’ 180-8, before Darren Kavanagh took 4-13 to dismiss Westbury for 129.
Youngster Jack Tomes shone with 75 not out to help Faringdon 2nd to a two-run win at Great Horwood 2nd.
Tomes helped Faringdon to 195-5, which proved just enough as Alan Johnson (3-30) and Richard Marlow (3-47) restricted the hosts to 193-8, despite Gary Lee’s 86.
Minster Lovell 3rd eased past hosts Swinbrook 2nd by six wickets in Division 8.
Wes Spearman claimed 4-21 in Swinbrook’s 122 all out, before Dan Spencer (49) and Lee McGuinness (36no) led Minster home at 126-3.
