Aston Rowant’s adventure in the ECB Under 15 National Club Championship is over following an 11-run defeat by Oakfield Parkonians (Essex) in the London & East regional finals at Old Albanian CC, St Albans.
The Oxfordshire champions had won their previous nine games, and they quickly had their opponents in trouble at 8-2 with Alex Chapman striking twice in the first over.
Oakfield rallied to make 145-8 from their 20 overs, Chapman finishing with 3-20.
In reply, Rowant were 89-6 with four overs left, but finished with a real flourish to reach 134-9, Joe Chown top-scoring with a quick-fire unbeaten 39.
That defeat left Rowant to contest the third-place play-off where they lost by 52 runs to North Middlesex.
The London side posted 142-9, with Ben Coldicott taking 4-20 and Will Senior 3-25.
Rowant were all out for 90, despite Alex Ferreira’s splendid 50.
In the final, Sutton (Surrey) cruised to a 96-run win over Oakfield Parkonians.
Having made 145, Sutton blew Oakfield away for 49 to progress to the national finals.
TOBY Parker played an outstanding knock to steer Great & Little Tew to a two-wicket win at home to Shipton-under-Wychwood in the Oxfordshire Under 17 competition.
Chasing Shipton’s 106-5, Parker, an under 14 player, was the match-winner with an unbeaten 46 against a strong bowling attack.
With good support from Will Priscott and Owen Maginnis, the winning runs came in the 19th over.
Earlier, Matt Brown had top-scored with 30 for Shipton, with Tom Parker (3-18) the pick of the Tew bowlers.
Reigning champions Cumnor had a ten-wicket victory over Minster Lovell B.
Ollie Mersh starred for Minster with 41, but no-one else was able to make an impression and they were restricted to 85-4, Tom Powell picking up 2-9.
In reply, a half-century from Alex Hodder-Williams, backed up by 28 from Alex Sayeed, saw Cumnor home without loss.
