Six Oxfordshire oarsmen were in Great Britain’s eight, which struck gold in dramatic fashion on the final day of the World Cup in Lucerne yesterday.
Oxford-based duo Constantine Louloudis and Paul Bennett, plus Matt Gotrel, Pete Reed, Alex Gregory and Will Satch, from the Leander Club at Henley, helped power the GB crew home by 0.08secs from Germany.
Matt Langridge, from Leander, and James Foad took silver in the men’s pair behind New Zealand.
Great Britain also took bronze in the women's eight, which included Leander's Katie Greves, Louisa Reeve, Victoria Meyer-Laker, Rosamund Bradbury and cox Zoe de Toledo plus Oxford Brookes University's Olivia Carnegie-Brown.
On Saturday, Oxford Brookes’s Matthew Tarrant celebrated his 25th birthday in style by teaming up with Leander’s Callum McBrierty to win the men’s coxed pair by five lengths from Germany.
Jonathan Clegg, from Leander, and Sam Scrimgeour, finished second to Italy in the lightweight men’s pair.
