CONNOR Ferguson lost in the quarterfinals of his first 14 & Under Tennis Europe event, held in Oslo.
The 12-year-old, from Buckland, made it through the qualifiers and then defeated Norway’s No 7 seed Fredrik Collyer, 6-4, 6-0.
But after winning a threeset clash in the last 16, Ferguson went down to third seed Leyton Rivera, from Sweden, in the last eight.
Ferguson took the first set 6-4, but tired in the heat to lose the next two 6-4, 6-1.
He then partnered Theo Debackere, from France, into the semi-finals of the doubles after knocking out the top seeds 10-6 in the final set tie-break.
- OXFORDSHIRE’S under 12 girls finished third in their group at the Aegon County Cup at North Oxford – despite winning their first two matches 8-0.
The team of Jana Cooper-Marcos (Oxford), Chloe Elliott (Eynsham) and Matilda Mutavdzic (Abingdon) whitewashed Buckinghamshire and Berkshire.
But they then went down 6-2 against Middlesex and lost on a shoot-out to Hertfordshire after the match finished level at 4-4.
The boys team of Luke Charlesworth (Abingdon), Will Taylor (East Hendred) and Christian Yeates (Thatcham) played in Corby, but struggled to make an impact with 8-0 defeats against Middlesex, Hertfordshire and Bucks, as well as a 6-2 loss against Berkshire.
- OXFORDSHIRE’S Over 40 ladies’ team remain top of Division 3 in the Seniors Inter-County League, despite losing 6-4 at Staffordshire.
The men’s over 65 team enjoyed a 4-1 win over Division 3 leaders South Wales to move to second.
- WOODSTOCK Ladies move to the top of Division 1 of the OLTA Babolat Summer League with a 3-1 win over Wantage.
