Dominant performances from Carrie Walker and Lucy Prower helped Abingdon GC to gold medal success as they hosted the Southern Region Women’s Artistic Team Championships.
Walker and Prower proved themselves among the best in the area as they, with teammates Lili-Mae Snuggs, India Weller and Alice France, eased to victory in the FIG category by a six-mark margin and won every apparatus in the event.
As a result, Walker and Prower have both been selected for the Southern Region’s four-strong team at the national Bill McLoughlin Cup.
This is to be held in Stoke-on-Trent in September.
Walker’s 12.95 on the beam and Prower’s 12.70 floor score were enough to earn them places at the prestigious event.
In the level 3 category, Abingdon’s A team, consisting of Isabelle Larman, Lexie-Mae Neal, Holly Allen, Kara Jones and Lily Titley, picked up a silver medal – just 0.85 marks behind the winners.
The B team, including Imogen Nutt, Abi France, April Davies and Beth Moulster, finished fourth, with France and Moulster winning individual apparatus medals.
