Oxford coach Tim Rumford is accentuating the positive ahead of their Kingstone Press League One game against Coventry Bears at Iffley Road tomorrow (5.30).
The Blues will be looking to bounce back after a 36-12 defeat to the North Wales Crusaders, but will take a lot of heart from the second-half performance which finished 12-12.
“It was probably one of the best 40 minutes we’ve put in over the season,” said Rumford.
“For large periods of the first half we went toe to toe with a really good North Wales side with a few big names.
“I think one or two of our lads felt privileged to be on the same field as Kevin Penny and Stephen Wild.
“But once we came to terms with that and got on with our job we looked pretty competitive.
“It helps to propel us forward into what is going to be a big game against Coventry.”
Oxford will be looking for revenge having lost to the Bears 32-10 on the first day of the season in wet conditions.
Loose forward Jamie Milburn is a doubt for Oxford with a shoulder injury, while centre Josh Nathaniel has a hamstring problem.
Oxford are hosting a family fun day at Iffley Road.
Food, music and a beer tent will be available from 1pm alongside several matches.
A family ticket, with two adults and children, costs £20.
