OXFORD Junior Stars capped an incredible season in style with victory at the Sheffield Ice Hockey Academy tournament at iceSheffield.
Stars started their campaign in blistering form, following up a 3-0 victory over Blackburn with a 4-0 success against Nottingham.
They needed a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw against Milton Keynes in their third game, before pulling off an even better escape to claim a 2-2 draw with hosts Sheffield.
Trailing 2-0 after eight minutes, Stars appeared to be staring defeat in the face before completing a dramatic comeback, equalising from a penalty shot with no time left on the clock.
A 5-0 thrashing of Swindon proved the perfect start to the second day of the tournament, before brushing Solent aside 3-1 to book their place in the final.
There would be no repeat of the previous day’s drama against Sheffield in the final as a rampant Stars eased to a 4-1 victory, inflicting a first defeat of the season on Sheffield in the process.
Head coach Sam Broughton said: “The club is incredibly proud of this team, with what they have been able to achieve with this most recent success and how close they all have become off the ice.”
