Banbury came close to pulling off a great run chase in a high-scoring draw at High Wycombe.
They fell 12 runs short of their 276-3 target with nine wickets down after a dramatic chase.
Wycombe’s innings was reduced to 54 overs, but a superb century from Banbury old boy Nathan Hawkes saw the hosts post a big total.
Banbury’s reply was led by Tim Paine, who hit 83 and Ian Tew, who blasted a quickfire 72.
However, rain just before tea denied Banbury an extra over which proved crucial.
Two sixes in an over from Tew left Banbury needing 125 off 15 overs.
This became 104 off ten, but Tew then started blasting the ball to all parts, with Wycombe at one stage having all nine fielders on the boundary.
When Tew was run out, Banbury’s hopes ended.
They needed 18 from the final over, but fell just short after a fine chase.
