OXFORD’S Lucy Brown begins her Wimbledon play-off campaign against fourth seed Francesca Stephenson at Aorangi Park today.
The 22-year-old, who is ranked 927 in the world, is vying for one of two wildcard places into next week’s qualifying event at Roehampton for the SW19 Championships later this month.
Brown retired at 7-5, 5-0 down from her first round match against Tara Moore at the Aegon Surbiton Trophy last week with a hamstring injury, but hoped to be fit for the play-off event.
She must win three matches over the course of today and tomorrow to advance from the draw of 16.
She is second on Court 20, from 11am.
