Lucy Brown is facing a race against time to be fit for tomorrow’s Wimbledon play-off event.
The 22-year-old, from Elsfield, near Oxford, retired with a hamstring injury at 7-5, 5-0 down against Tara Moore in last week’s Aegon Surbiton Trophy first round.
She consequently pulled out of qualifying for the Aegon Ilkley Trophy in order to be fit to fight for a place at the AllEngland Championships later this month.
Brown needs to win three matches starting at SW19’s Aorangi Park tomorrow to earn a wildcard for Wimbledon qualifying next Monday at the Bank of England Sports Grounds in Roehampton.
A series of injuries have threatened her career in the past, but Brown is hopeful of being able to compete tomorrow.
She said: “It (pulling out of Ilkley) was a prevention and more of a cautious move so I can play.
“I’m hoping to have treatment to give myself the best chance and see how it goes.
“I have put myself in the best position possible and we will see how it goes.”
