OXFORDSHIRE’S Katherine Hawes and Carole Galletly bid to help England seal a hat-trick of British Isles Women’s International Series titles at Royal Leamington Spa, starting on Sunday.
Galletly (Banbury Central) will play at lead with Hawes (Oxford City & County) at No 2 in the rink skipped by Herefordshire’s Tracey Powell, which also features Worcestershire’s Amy Stanton.
Hawes was a member of the England team which recorded a clean sweep of wins over Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Jersey in the last two tournaments in Glasgow and Jersey respectively.
The series at Victoria Park takes place over three days.
Hawes will also represent England in the fours with her City & County clubmates Myra Lewis, Donna Knight and Gail Gilkes after they were crowned national champions at Leamington last August.
Meanwhile, Carol Gaskins and Jeanette Berry, both from Oxford City & County, have qualified for the National Two Wood Singles Championships in August.
Gaskins beat clubmate Carol Penson in the last eight before defeating Sue Gokgor (West Oxford) in the semi-final by ten shots.
Berry beat Jacky Gray in the quarter-final and then Myra Lewis (both Oxford City & County) in the last four.
Two ladies teams from Banbury Central are also through to the National Fours finals.
Caroline Campion’s quartet of Pam Shepherd, Gill Sharpe and Carole Galletly beat Gill Lambourne’s four from Oxford University Press in the semi-final by nine shots.
Anne Norton skipped her rink of Mo Cox, Sue Waring and Annie Gilkes to a eight-shot victory over last year’s national champions Oxford City & County.
