ALEX MacDonald is due for a medical at Oxford United on Monday after agreeing personal terms.
Burton Albion have accepted an undisclosed fee for the 24-year-old, who was out of contract with them at the end of the season.
United head coach Michael Appleton is delighted at the prospect.
He said: "That's fantastic news, Alex will be coming in at 9am on Monday for his medical.
"As long as everything goes right with that I think it's going to be a great capture.
"He's one of Burton's best players, if not the best and is someone that will bring a lot of quality."
United remain hopeful for a busy transfer deadline day on Monday.
Striker Tyrone Barnett has been given the weekend to consider the club's offer, while a midfielder is also in their sights.
