Alex Davies can’t wait for tomorrow’s home clash with Saracens as he prepares to end his nine-month injury nightmare.
The versatile back has not played since May when he ruptured an anterior cruci - ate ligament in the first leg of London Welsh’s Greene King IPA Championship semi-final at Leeds, so missed their pro - motion-winning victory at Bristol.
Davies knew straightaway that something wasn’t right.
“Tom May passed me the ball, I tried to step and as I’ve gone to push off my right foot my knee just collapsed,” said Davies.
“No-one touched me, I just felt a rip through my knee. I heard it straight away. It was just one of those things; it just looked like I’d tripped.
“They did a few tests and the early indications were that it could be OK, but obvi - ously it wasn’t.
“It really knocked me back when I got told that I’d rup - tured my ACL and I’d be out for six to nine months – it was absolutely heartbreaking. I actually cried.”
Davies, who has amassed 570 points in 72 Exiles appear - ances since joining in 2011 from Plymouth Albion, has played three times for Ross - lyn Park in National League 1 as part of his rehabilitation.
And he makes the bench for tomorrow’s LV= Cup clash against Saracens at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium.
Davies said: “It’s been re - ally frustrating. You sit there week in, week out watching the games and you can’t con - tribute.
“It’s going to be weird doing all the pre-match stuff and even just getting on the team bus to the Kassam Stadium.
“I’m just so excited.”
Welsh make 12 changes, in - cluding one positional, for to - morrow’s game.
In the backs, Elliot Kear starts at full back, Alan Aw - cock replaces Seb Stegmann on the right wing, while team captain Tom May returns at outside centre. Nick Scott is on the left wing.
