MOST of the 16 anglers had to break the ice after North Oxford Angling Society’s match against Charlbury AC was switched from the Evenlode to the Oxford canal at Kings Bridge.
Alternating between bread and worm, Charlbury’s stalwart Percy Hickman headed the field with a 2lb 4oz perch, plus bits for a total weight of 3.10.0.
Tony Krason only had one fish, but this was an excellent perch of 2.12.0 on maggot, which gave him second place.
Dave Head caught one perch of 1.13.0 on worm for third place.
Alan Hewer finished on top in Sutton Courtenay AC’s Mullins & Croucher Memorial match, fished by seven competitors on the Lower Moors Only four weighed in, topped by Hewer with a chub and small perch for 3.5.0. Gary Stafford was second with 1.4.0. and Bob Gosbee third with 1.0.0.
It was also a struggle for the seven anglers who braved the cold to fish the Masons AC points match at Aristotle Lane.
Yan Stankowski won quite easily with a mixed bag of small perch, roach and skimmers caught on worm or maggot for 1.6.0.
Second was Martin Robinson with 0.8.0 and Jason Smith third with 0.6.0.
John Spencer made it three wins in a row when landing Tackley Sports AC’s Dead River Trophy at the Three Pigeons stretch of Oxford Canal, where eight fished.
Spencer won with a weight of a 7.6.0 mixed bag caught on pole maggot and worm.
Anthony Alder was runner-up with 4.3.0 and Mick Merry third on 1.4.0.
Henry Clark collec-ted Kidlington AS’s McGregor Cup, fished by nine on Oxford Canal.
Clark had a winning eight of 5.13.0 – skimmers on punch and bloodworm – just beating runner-up Keith Harvey (4.10.0).
Dave Scott-Picton finished third with 1.5.0.
