LUCY Smith won bronze in the Catalonian Open Championships in Barcelona.
The City of Oxford swimmer was one of three club members in Spain as part of a 20-strong squad from the South East region.
City’s head coach, Amanda Booth, was also invited to be one of the two coaches.
Smith finished third in the women’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay team and qualified for individual finals in the 200m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly.
Fabian Whitbread qualified for the men’s 200m breaststroke final and just missed out on a podium place, taking fourth in 2mins 22.63secs.
He was also sixth in both the men’s 400m and 200m individual medley events.
Elizabeth Oliver made the women’s 200m and 400m individual medley finals.
l TOM Thornley was named swimmer of the year at Bicester Blue Fins’ awards night at Ambrosden Officers’ Mess.
He capped his season by qualifying for two finals in Catalonia, while boys’ champion Kieran Bird, also 15-years-old, won the head coach’s special award.
