Banbury United boss Paul Davis admitted a good performance tomorrow afternoon at St Neots Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division is far less important to him than a good result.

Davis said he has been impressed by his side’s recent performances, but was left frustrated as his side returned to the bottom of the league following back-to-back defeats.

“We’ve been good all year really, probably since Boxing Day,” he said.

“Even in the last two games, which we’ve lost, I thought our performances have been good, but sometimes you get runs like that where you lose games even when you’re playing well.

“It’s pleasing that we’ve been able to string performances together against the top sides, but it’s not performances that win you games.

“If we’re scruffy and untidy against St Neots but win the game, I’ll happily take that.”

The Puritans slipped back to the foot of the table last weekend, conceding late on in a 2-1 defeat at home to Hungerford Town.

But far from knocking confidence, Davis believes that disappointment has served as a lesson for his players.

He said: “To lose it like that was incredibly upsetting.”

Defender Jack Westbrook (suspension) is out, but Declan Hartigan returns.
