JOHN Campbell's future at Oxford United is up in the air as discussions with Jarrow Roofing continue.
The deal which brought the striker to the U's in November saw him come on an initial loan until the end of January.
At that point if United wanted to keep him they would be forced to pay a fee, but they are now in talks with the Tyneside club about delaying the decision until the end of the season.
An outcome is expected shortly, with Campbell, who has scored once in three appearances for the first team, training at United this morning.
Head coach Michael Appleton admitted the situation was not clear, but he was more optimistic about keeping Campbell than he was 24 hours ago.
He said: "There was a bit of a confusion yesterday on that one.
"I'm still not 100 per cent sure where we stand with it.
"If you'd asked me yesterday morning I think the likelihood was he would've been going back to Jarrow Roofing.
"But after discussion I've had just now there's a possibility he could be here until the end of the season, which I hope is the case."
