TOM Newey has agreed a settlement to leave Oxford United early by mutual consent.
The 32-year-old full back had a contract until the end of this season, but has not played for Michael Appleton's side since October.
Newey was loaned out to Northampton Town later that month, making three appearances before picking up an injury.
Any slim chance of a comeback ended when United signed another left back, Joe Skarz, on Saturday.
Newey made a total of 62 appearances for United since joining in July 2013, scoring once.
Last week Appleton revealed he expected both Newey and David Hunt to agree settlements before the end of the transfer window.
