Tom Butler scored two early goals as Abingdon United triumphed 5-1 at Holyport to move out of the Uhlsport Hwellenic League Premier Division relegation zone.

Butler took advantage of defensive errors to score in the first and 15th minutes.

The visitors were 3-0 ahead after 20 minutes when Anaclet Odhiambo burst through to set up a goal for Frankie Haines.

Fred Tripp pulled one back for Holyport in the 22nd minute, tapping home from close range.

The pace dropped in the second half, with Abingdon remai ning in charge.

This pressure was turned into two goals in the last 20 minutes from Tom Melledew.

Ardley United’s hopes of getting back into the thick of the promotion race were dented when they lost 2-1 at home to leaders Highmooor Ibis.

The hosts paid for a string of missed chances.

Highmoor took the lead after six mniutes when Anthony White went through unchallenged.

Ardley equalised after after 19 minutes when a long Adam Beckett throw-in bounced past everyone before Highmoor defender Jemel Forde could only help it on its way into the net for an own goal.

Stephen Peacock restored Highmoor’s lead in the 36th minute.

Ardley had plenty of chances to level in the second half, but Ricky Johnson and Ollie Stanbridge were denied by home keeper Gavin Kidd.

Thame United suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Thatcham Town Res, both of whose goals came from Josh Stockwell.

Carterton lost to 2-1 away to promotion- chasing Purton in Division 1 West.

Two second-half goals from Marcus Hall and David Gee saw Purton retain third spot Carterton had led at the interval with a goal from Sean McKeon.

Letcombe, bottom of Division 1 West, gave high-riding visitors North Leigh United a fright by taking a seventh-minute lead through Tom Broad in their Bluefin Sports Cup third-round tie on Saturday.

However, North Leigh recovered to win 4-1 thanks to goals from George Seacole, Joe Fullerton, Connor Robins and Nathan Blackwell.

Drew Fowler struck a magnificent winner 12 minutes from time to secure Headington Amateurs’ place in the third round of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup with a 2-1 win away to Finchampstead.

Ryan Tye had put Finchampstead into a 20th-minute lead.

Headington drew level in the 35th minute when Aftab Hafiz was brought down in the penalty area.

Tom Payne dispatched the resultant spot-kick.

Milton United suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat at home to Shortwood United Res in their second-round tie.

The visitors were 3-0 ahead with two goals from Liam Meridith another from Luke Beneworth.

Daniel Cox-Rogers pulled one back for the Premier Division home side but it was too little too late.
