Banbury United took the lead after five minutes of Saturday’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division relegation battle, but playing with ten men for 75 minutes proved too much of a handicap as they lost 3-1 away to Dorchester Town.

Jordan Green created Banbury’s goal, and though his shot was saved, Leam Howards was on hand to knock in the loose ball.

But after 17 minutes, the visitors had Joel Meade sent off for fouling Ben Watson when he was through on goal.

Dorchester equalised in the 23rd minute when Watson’s cross was slotted home at the far post by Dan Smith.

Two minutes later, Banbury keeper Leigh Bedwell was booked after bringing down Watson, who fired in the resultant penalty.

Dorchester sealed the result with their third goal from Sam Lanahan’s header just before the break.

Banbury Utd: Bedwell, Cray, M Martin, Meade, Tappin, Ryan, Green, Westbrook, Howards (Eminoglu 73), Walcott, Whitehead. Subs not used: Browne, D Martin, White.

Attendance: 433.
