A fabulous carp, weighing 4lb 9oz, helped Keith Harvey win Kidlington Angling Society’s Fred Taylor Cup on the Thames, downstream from Donnington Bridge.
Harvey, who fished worm and maggot on the pole, finished with a winning weight of 6.3.0 in the points match.
Dave Pether was second with 4.2.8 of perch and roach, while Jason Bean came third with 3.1.8 to take a two-point lead in the points race.
Points race standings: 1 J Bean 79, 2 H Clarke 77, 3 J Barrett 72.
Littlemore Angling Society’s decision to switch their Keith Mills Memorial Cup match from the fast-rising Thames to Wood Lake at Panshill Fishery, proved wise.

Even though fishing was hard for the 19 contestants, Chris Webb made the most of an in-form peg.
Webb caught a 20lb carp on the pole with maggot for another convincing winning weight of 22.3.0.
Mark Shephrd had six carp on the pole with bread to come runner-up with 16.5.0, while Paul Brant was third with 14.4.0.
It was a happy new year for Mick Merry who won Tackley Estates match on Oxford Canal at the Rock of Gibraltar, where 11 fished.
Merry won with 6.12.0, which included two bream.
He was followed home by Stephen Malone with 3.0.0. and Anthony Alder (2.0.0).
Oxfordshire Pike Anglers Club & Linear Fisheries are staging a charity pike match in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association at St John’s Pit, Linear Fisheries, Stanton Harcourt, on Sunday February 1.
