Huw Dimond scored a try on his debut as Oxford Harlequins repelled a late Chard comeback to prevail 17-15 on their first visit to the Somerset club in National 3 South West.
The game opened at a fast pace and it was Chard who led thanks to a penalty by Bryan Harrison in the fourth minute.
Quins replied after nine minutes when No 8 Lloyd Willcocks picked up and drove over for a try that Will Sharratt converted.
However, Chard regained the lead with a try from No 8 Mark Parsons. But Sharratt landed a penalty to leave Quins leading 10-8 at the break.
In the second half, Quins were rewarded for early pressure with a try from centre Dimond, which Sharratt converted.
Slack Quins defence then allowed Chard left wing Ben Stead score a converted try on 69 minutes.
With a two-point lead, Quins then shut down Chard and ran out winners more comfortably than the score might suggest.
