JOHNNY Mullins felt Oxford United’s season was summed up in their 2-1 loss at home to Cheltenham Town.
Wes Burns headed United in front during a dominant opening half hour, but they could not kill the game off.
Instead, Cheltenham exploited a careless spell late in the first half to score twice.
Despite the U’s best efforts after the interval, they could not find a way through and lost for the tenth time in 24 league games.
Latest United news:
Mullins was left with a sense of déjà vu.
He said: “It’s been the story of our season.
“At the start of the season we played well, kept the ball moving, but we were losing games by the odd goal, like this.
“It’s a sickening thing to have, but we’ve got to go into the second half of the season with a positive frame of mind.”
For the centre back, it was harder to take than their previous home defeat, 2-0 to high-flying Shrewsbury Town.
He said: “If they had played us off the park you’re hurt, but you know why.
“I can’t tell you why we’ve lost that game because I thought we were the better side.”
