THE first activity of the transfer window for Oxford United is likely to be players leaving, according to head coach Michael Appleton.
Saturday marked the beginning of the month-long opportunity to make changes to squads, with the U’s expected to be very busy.
While the club have a list of targets to recruit, Appleton thought initial movement would be from players heading for the exit door.
He said: “I would imagine so, but we just have to make sure when they do happen we’ve got the right people in place to come in.”
Latest United news:
There are several players deemed surplus to requirements and news is expected this week.
Michael Raynes is still yet to officially move on, despite tweeting his goodbyes on Friday, while Junior Brown could return to Mansfield Town after his loan expired.
Appleton is also hopeful of agreeing new deals until the end of the season for full backs Tom Newey and David Hunt, who have been at Northampton Town and Barnet respectively.
The U’s boss said: “Tom’s still injured so will probably spend a few days back here until he gets it sorted out.
“The early indications are Northampton want to do something.
“(Barnet) are quite keen to do it and as long as Hunty is prepared to do it I would imagine that will happen.”
