IT may have ended on a low note with defeat at Carlisle United, but last week marked a major step forward for Andy Whing.
The midfielder played every minute of Oxford United’s three games in eight days, his first big test after spending six months out with a groin injury.
He played an important role in victories against Tranmere Rovers and Northampton Town, but was unable to prevent Carlisle pinching an 89th-minute winner at Brunton Park.
Despite feeling the frustration of missing out on taking nine points out of nine, Whing, who is set to continue in the starting line-up against Wycombe Wanderers tomorrow, was delighted to play successive games without any fitness issues.

Latest United news:
“The result was disappointing, but I can look back and be happy with a good week’s work,” he said.
“It’s three games in a week and I think previous to that I played four games in 11 months.
“So I’m really pleased on a positive note from myself.
“I’m really pleased to get through the week, I feel really fit and good to go.
“That’s a big bonus for me and hopefully I can keep myself fit for the remainder of the season, which I’ve lacked in the last couple of years.”
Whing’s return has been a boost to United, but he believes it could take another month before top gear is reached.
The 30-year-old said: “To get properly match fit is probably going to take double figures in games to really find your rhythm.
“There’s a lot of teammates out there I’m getting to know as well because I’ve been out so long.
“It will take time, but I’m really happy with the way it’s going.”
