HENLEY Hawks regained top spot after a 32-22 victory at Launceston.

Hawks’ win over the Cornish All Blacks saw them edge back ahead of Taunton Titans on points difference.

Henley fly half Will Robinson kicked eight out of nine attempts at goal, including six penalties.

Robinson landed his first penalty on two minutes, with Henley then working an overlap for wing Lloyd Owen to score their opening try.

A touchline conversion from Robinson made it 10-0, but the All Blacks’ pack began to hold sway.

Centre Jacob Taylor replied with a try from a tapped penalty.

Strong scrummaging laid the foundations for Launceston’s second try, scored by centre Sam Chapman and converted by fly half Kieran Lewitt.

Robinson made it 13-12 with a penalty, but the hosts led 19-13 at half-time after flanker James Salter forced his way over and Lewitt converted.

Owen used his pace and guile to outwit six home defenders and score his second try from 75 metres, which Robinson converted for 20-19.

Lewitt’s penalty put Launceston 22-20 ahead with 12 minutesremaining.

A surge by replacement flanker Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas allowed Robinson to kick Henley back in front.

The All Blacks conceded three more penalties as they tired and Hawks came on strong, with Robinson slotting each one.

Chinnor fell to a fourth successive narrow defeat – 30-24 at Lydney.

Former England prop and Lydney coach Duncan Bell touched down for the bonus point try to pile on the misery for Chinnor.

Visiting full back Ed Keohane and his opposite number Tony Wicks traded early penalties.

Keohane scuffed a penalty before No 8 Liam Jackson bagged Lydney’s opening try, Wicks converting.

The hosts had captain Brett Scriven yellow-carded and centre Jack Hayes’s try, converted by Keohane made it 10-10 at the break.

Wicks scored a length-of-the-field interception try, while fly half Brad Barnes’s drop goal made it 18-10.

It was soon 25-10 after wing Josh Hannam collected a bouncing ball to score, Wicks converting.

Bell had only just come on when he went over in the corner.

The momentum went Chinnor’s way in the final ten minutes, with a penalty try and one from lock Dave McKee, both converted by Keohane, reducing the arrears.
