BANBURY United moved off the bottom of the Premier Division table with an impressive 2-0 victory over Cambridge City last night.
Goals from Jacob Walcott (penalty) and Aidan Hawtin gave the Puritans a vital win.
But the main talking point of the match was a bizarre sending off, which saw Cambridge’s Andrew Phillips dismissed after coming to blows with a teammate.
Fellow Cambridge attacker Danny Kelly closed in on goal in the 36th-minute, and opted to shoot, despite Phillips being better placed.

That prompted Phillips to square up to his teammate, and after the duo went head-to-head, Phillips was sent off to the amazement of the stunned crowd.
Cambridge were already 1-0 down at the time after Walcott converted a seventh-minute spot-kick.
Shepherd Murombedzi, back with Banbury after trials at Leyton Orient and Mansfield Town, was brought down in the area by Josh Dawkin.
Walcott, who always stands with his back to the goalkeeper before starting his run-up, made good contact, and although the Cambridge keeper guessed the right way, he couldn’t stop the effort.
After a second-half which offered little in terms of chances, Aidan Hawtin, on loan from Oxford United, made the result safe in the 92nd-minute, coolly slotting home as Banbury moved two places up the table.
- DIDCOT Town and Wantage Town both bowed out of the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup last night, losing 4-0 and 1-0 to Maidenhead United and Aylesbury United respectively.
