JAMES Roberts admitted it was extra sweet to score a winner for Oxford United against rivals Swindon Town, even if it came in a behind-closed-doors game.
The 18-year-old came off the bench to complete a comeback for the U’s, who came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Roman Way.
Roberts was delighted to make the most of his opportunity.
He said: “It’s good to get a winner in any game, but against Swindon it’s doubly nice.
Latest United news:
“There was never any doubt in my mind, you can’t as a striker, you’ve got to go through believing you’re going to score.
“Thankfully I did.”
Carlton Morris and Junior Brown were also on target for United, who used the game to give several senior players, including Alfie Potter and Michael Raynes, a run-out.
For the second game in a row goalkeeper Ryan Clarke and midfielder Andy Whing played as they continued to recover from surgery in the summer.
Assistant head coach Mickey Lewis said: “Clarkey has had two 90 minutes. In all honesty he didn’t have a lot to do, but it’s game time and he’s working really hard in training.
“Whingy has only had one 90 minutes and he’s been out for a long time, so he will have to keep training hard.
“They might not be totally ready yet, but it’s good to know they’re coming back.”
