MIDLANDS 2 WEST SOUTH
BANBURY Bulls stayed top after taking maximum points from a 28-5 home victory over lowly Leamington.
The match was closer than the scoreline suggests, but Banbury did enough to take the spoils.
Bulls finally scored at the end of a scrappy first half, with scrum half Ed Phillips making amends for an earlier penalty miss by finishing off a move started by centre James Heywood and adding the conversion.
Leamington had Craig Smith sin-binned and were punished when Bulls prop Garry Byott forced his way over, Phillips converting.
Wing Ryan Byrne hit back with a try for Banbury, making it 14-5.
Phillips lost the ball as he tried to score a third Bulls try, but he soon converted No 8 Simon Brand’s score.
Banbury sealed a bonus point in the final minute when hooker Giles Saar forced his way over for Phillips to convert.
